That's it folks from us here at the D4 Events Amateur Championship of Poker 2013, it's a new event from the promoters where the aim of the event is to give the recreational player the chance to play in a tournament with all the trappings of a big buy-in event for a modest entry of €200 and I think it was a resounding success.
Phil Baker maning the live stream for the entire two days didn't miss a beat and sitting beside him for the weekend (even managing to jump in for a stint) have to say was excellent, found out earlier that he will be back in action next week at the Europan Deepstack so looking forward to that.
Total of 198 players took to the felt and generated a prizepool of €32,670 74 players made it through Day 1 and out of those Sammy O Brien was the chipleader who eventually went on to cash in 7th for €1,225 not a bad showing from the local player, we got off to a flyer today in terms of bustout as I was feed a constant stream of media cards from TD Nick O Hara and within a short couple hours play we were down around the money bubble, down to 20 players and the last lady remaining in the even Willow Connolly asked about paying all remaining players a notion that was shot down pretty quick, with that done and done play commenced for a little while longer until Connolly herself had the misfortune of being crowned the bubblegirl and just missed out on a payday.
Everybody now in the money things started to flow a little easier that all remaining players were going to be guaranteed a return on their investment, as we made our way from 18 down to 10 Nigel Millar missed out on the final table eliminated at the hands of Mark Spelman with KK vs AK. Final table was set & Spelman going onto the table as the chipleader it wasn't going to be his day as things transpired to go against him, Conor Blain was the first player to bust out from the table after which the knockouts seemed to stagnate for awhile, but as soon as 8th went the rush of exits was pretty quick as we dropped down to 4. Pausing play while the players trashed out a deal we eventually got back underway and made our way down to heads up play between Kieran Small & Mark Delaney who would go to take down the event when he was victorious with Q9.
Would just like to say a huge thank you to all who tuned into the blog and viewed the live stream, for all the comments we received over the duration of the two days, myself on the blog/Phil Baker on the stream/Ailbe Collins on cameras/Gary Jarman behind the scenes, cheers folks. Don't forget to like ACOP on Facebook & follow @D4_Events on Twitter, where you can see videos that were shot over the two days.
With that I will bid you all adue and please do tune into our next coverage from Thursday next week when we will be bringing you all the action from the European Deepstack Poker Championship, catch you all on the flipside...

Chatting to him after the the winners pictures he mentioned that he hasn't played tons of event's but has managed to satellite into the PPP Irish Open & Winterfest but this event has been his biggest cash to date, no doubt he will be first on the list to attend this event next year to defend his title.

We Have a Winner
After a topsy turvy heads up battle we can crown Mark Delaney as the inaugural Amateur Championship of Poker 2013 Winner.
Going into heads up play against Keiran Small there was four crucial hands that changed the chip leader in the space of about 1 hour but on the penultimate hand Delaney had a commanding chiplead and held Qc9h vs Jd10s
Flopping a pair of 9's on Ac7c9s it gave the gutterball draw to Small onto the turn the dealer paired the board with an Ad as we went onto the last card the dealer pinged the Qs on the river and with that card we were able to crown our champion.
2nd - Kieran Small - €5,960

Heads Up
We go heads up now between Mark Delaney & Keiran Small, Delaney holding a commanding chip leader but gave up now after two big all ins.
3rd - Shane Mullan - €4,125
After a lot of back and forth between the final three Shane Mullan has finished in 3rd place after been eliminated holding 10d9s vs Ah8s of Mark Delaney

Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000
5th - Mark Spelman - €2,200
Mark Spelman has exited in 5th place in a hail of big hands, Kieran Small all in preflop for 250,000 or so with QdQh Colm McCreary called the all in and held AcKc with Spelman to act playing roughly 380,000 held AsQc
Main pot was were it all was but there was a small side pot of roughly 240,000 between Spelman & McCreary was up for grabs.
Dealer ran out a board of 6d8h8c7s5d and as we got to the turn Spelman was resigned to know that he couldn't win the hand and was going to be eliminated, one time chip leader I'm sure he will be disappointed to exit where he did but took a couple hits on the final table to divert his coarse but I'm sure he knows how that goes from to time.

6th - Michael O Neill - €1,670
Michael O Neill as Phil Baker mentioned on the live stream had been rocking it up and one of the tightest players on the table but he has finally succumb to the short stack.
All in against Colm McCreary who has claimed another scalp when he had his opponent out kicked holding AsQh to AdJc

7th - Sammy O Brien - €1,225
KhJh has just bashed another player again this time Sammy O Brien, all in pre flop for 455,000 it was very close in chips but I don't think Shane Mullan was happy making the call.
O Brien - AcJs
Mullan - KhJh
Qc8c8d flop and it was all looking good in the world of O Brien but a 9h on the turn breathed a little life into his opponent and the resuscitation was complete when the 10c flipped on the river to give a gutterball and eliminated another player.

8th - Henry Port - €900
Henry Port will be our 8th place after being eliminated by Colm McCreary who came to the final table on the short stack is now rocking along.
Port has had himself some nice result over the last couple months and is more than capable and one to watch in the coming months, playing roughly 240,000 on his exit hand he was all in with 10c10d & looked up by AhJh
Dealer spreading a 2h6h9c flop McCreary had flopped the flush draw much to the dismay of Port as we hit the turn card it was Ac leaving Port with just one out the 10s onto the river it fell 5h to give a flush.

Double Once Again
Another double through, lads on the final table are just swapping chips at the moment Colm McCreary has taken a big chunk out of Kieran Small, open to 160,000 with an all in from McCreary for 346,000 after asking for a count of how much more Small made the call.

Double for Small
Kieran Small has managed to double through the one time chip leader Mark Spelman who remarks after the hand "it's a tough old game"
Two lads get all the chips in the middle pre flop for a pot in the region of 600,000 it was KdKs for Small & As10d for his opponent.
Flop was all small cards 2h5h8s and that's how it stayed when the rest of the board ran 9h5d Spelman is now sitting on a stack of roughly 200,000

Nearly
Nearly had another exit on the final table but a two outer from Mark Delaney means we go along with 8 at the moment, Mark Spelman opens to 100,000 pre & Delaney from the SB moves all in for 376,000 insta called.
Spelman - AhKs
Delaney - KhJh
As we went to the flop 8c4d5s things were looking good for the AK as we had no chances for runner runner flushes, turn Js snatches the lead and it was held as the river 10h locked it up. 9th - Conor Blain - €690
Colm McCreary raises the button into Conor Blains BB who raised all in, calling the shove the two players turn their cards up with the former holding QcQh & the latter 9h9d
As the flop was spread 7c8d6c it was an open ender for Blain with his opponent not looking too confident now, onto a 6h it was one more pull of the trigger but the dealer peeled As & with that we lost our first player from the final table.

Ouch what a way to get eliminated being counterfeited one of my personal pet peeves on an exit, missed the action pre flop but there was a big commotion around the table so I sprinted over to catch see what was what.
Clarke - 5c5s
Spelman - AdJs
Clarke held around 200,000 so the victor of the hand was going to be sitting pretty heading towards the final table. Onto the flop we went as it came 10s10hQd 2s on the turn 2s but as the river flipped over it was a Qs to double pair the board and gave the win to Spelman with Ace high.

BubbleGirl
Willow Connolly is the unfortunate bubblegirl and was the last lady left in the event, after being the proponent for the deal on the bubble it's a cruel way to go out when the deal was rejected.
Couple of topsy turvy hands before, Connolly was all in a little bit before with Ad2s vs AcQd and binked the river when the board ran out 3sAhKs4d2h left the player with the AQ Richard O Neill on a short stack, shoving all in pre flop with Kd8s vs Conor Blains AcKh but O Neill came from behind as the dealer flopped him good with an 8d6cJs board with the turn & river 6s8c
Onto the bust out hand I missed the pre flop action, Connolly & Blain only two players in the hand with a board reading 4h2h4h Connolly had lead for around 24,000 with Blain flatting behind, onto the turn Qd Connolly checked the action this time with Blain announcing "all in" which sent her into the tank, thinking/thinking/thinking she sits back in her seat before announcing call.
She is bad shape as she holds KdQc vs the dominating AhQc of Blain, only two cards in the deck to save her tournament life the two black Kings as the dealer peeled the river card it was a black 9s of spades, everybody was now in the money as Connolly wanted to make a quick break to the exit.

Dobbins Double
Robert Csire has taken a big hit at the hands of Matt Dobbins, shoving the button with QdJc Dobbins in the SB calls all in with KcQc

Huge!
Just had a monster hand between Mark Spelman & Mick McCloskey, get the heads up from table mate Robert Csire that there was a big hand brewing on the table, arrive to the table there is already 45,000+ in the pot board reads Js4c7c
Spelman had led for 24,000 with McCloskey moving all in for roughly 150,000 more looked like Spelman had been in the tank for a bit before I got there, glanced at the clock and by the time he called 3-4 minutes had passed, "ah shur f**k it" was the remark from him as he pushed the chips into the middle.
McCloskey looked like he was in trouble when the call was made & showed 6d6h and was in bad shape as Spelman showed AsJc 10c on the turn which meant only the 6s that would get him out of trouble but as the river fell 2d it was to the rails for Mick, while on the flipside of that Spelman now as a stack in the region of 500,000

Big Double Up
Sammy O Brien started today as the tournament chipleader but lost a few chips at the start of play, chatting to him awhile back and he was down to 60,000 but a move to the feature table and he had chipped up a little but and managed to get a big double up at the hands of Remy Rollen.
All the chips going in pre with O Brien holding AcAh vs Rollen AsQs in great shaping going to the flop but as it came down 9s10s10h O Brien was looking a little worried that his opponent flopped so well, I'm sure he would of been delighted to just have his opponent drawing dead in the flop. Onto the turn 6h now waiting for the dealer to peel the river card, it was a red 4h and Sammy let out a big holler at scooping the hand.
Count down of the stacks O Brien held 76,300 which has now pushed him north of 150,000+

Small bit of life breathed into him as he flopped as good as possible with his hand, JhAd5h gave him flush & straight possibilites but as the rest of the board ran out it went brick/brick 7s8c

Shortstacks Dropping
UTG limp for 3,000 Peter Burnett in the CO raised to 20,000 Anthony Garland on the button moved all in for a little over Brunetts raise so it was an easy decision.
Garland held AsQh and was hoping to get there against the 7h7d of Burnett but as the dealer spread a 7cJd6c it was all but over for the AQ as his opponent had flopped a set of 7's as the turn came 9d it was to the rails as there was no other cards he could catch to keep him in, 4s on the river to complete the board.
Horan Eliminated
Colum Horan has made a splash onto the poker scene in the last couple months, played against him in the local Dublin card clubs but made the IPO final table last year and took home a nice pay day, since then he has been a staple at a lot of the festival games.
All in pre flop with 7h7d against the AsKh of Thomas Higgins who earlier got there with AK against KK and once again got there, has now come from a circa 10bigs stack he is up to around 100,000 now.
Flop Jd8dQc Horan kept the lead but his opponent added a couple extra outs to his chances to scoop with a gutterball, turn card sealed his fate as the 10c peeled off to give Higgins the nut straight and the board running out an inconsequential 6c.

Noone Nomore
MP open to 4,000 Alan Rooney in the CO 3bets to 15,000 with Jarlath Noone in the BB on a short stack pushes all in for 15,500, original raiser side steps while it's an easy call for the extra 500.
Noone - As7s
Rooney - KdQd
Noone found a good hand to get his remaining chips in but couldn't fade getting out drawn as there was a King right in the flop as it came down Ks5h2c 10d fell on the turn & when the 6s peeled off on the river it was curtains for Noone.
